Notts Draw Opening Blast Thriller

Worcestershire Rapids 152/6-152/8 Notts Outlaws (T20 Blast North Group) 10.06.21

Notts Outlaws could only draw with Worcestershire Rapids last night as Peter Trego was run out last ball to ensure the first game of the Vitality Blast season between the two sides at New Road would end in a tie.

The Rapids made 152 from their 20 overs with former Outlaw Jake Libby 52 not out from 43 balls the best of the lot.

Luke Fletcher took 2/36 whilst Matt Carter took the early wickets of D’Oliveira and Ali to eventually finish with 2/22 as Notts kept the hosts down to a reachable target to chase.

In reply the current Vitality Blast holders got off to a perfect start with Joe Clarke and Alex Hales in devastating form taking the away side to 76 in less than six overs before Hales was caught on 31 having hit two fours and three sixes from 18 balls.

Clarke followed shortly after on 45 from 21 balls and the Notts run chase slowed down, Duckett went for just six before Moores followed with the Outlaws 53 short with ten overs remaining.

Patel and Trego offered a slow response as Notts were favourites to end the match with a victory but when the former was run out for 12 by Morris at 128 with under five overs remaining, Mullaney helped edge the score to give Notts a chance but when he went for 7 and Luke Fletcher was run out shortly after, Notts needed three from the final three balls but could only manage two before a last ball run out with Trego 35 from 38.

In the end frustration but an entertaining match at least ended without defeat, Notts next up at the home of cricket, Trent Bridge on Friday night as they face Birmingham Bears in a sell out fixture.
