Mansfield Beaten At Home

Mansfield Town 1-2 Salford City (EFL League Two) 22.10.19

Mansfield Town have slipped to 18th place in League Two heaping pressure on Manager John Dempster as they were beaten at home against Salford City last night.

The Stags described after by Dempster as “the better side” had 24 shots as opposed to Salford’s 4 and 63% of the possession at Field Mill but Jake Jervis’s strike just after half time followed by an Adam Rooney volley on 65 left the Nottinghamshire outfit with much to do.

Nicky Maynard netted his sixth league goal of the season to give Town slim hope 13 minutes from time but Stags huffed and puffed but could not blow down the Salford door and the defeat leaves Mansfield now 7 points from the playoff spots although still 8 points clear of Stevenage in the relegation slot at the foot of the table.

Midfielder Conor Shaughnessy on loan from Leeds who was interviewed after the game stated the “small details” into the Stags fourth home loss of the season. “It’s simple things like putting the ball in the back of the net when we’re creating that many chances”

Town will now look to bounce back at struggling Walsall on Saturday. The Saddlers have lost their last four league games in a row and lie two points behind the Stags in 19th position.
