Local Sides In FA Trophy Action

With Notts County in local derby action at Chesterfield leading the non-league match-ups biggest ties of this weekend (and live on BT Sports, Saturday 5:20pm), we wanted to bring you the best from around the other grounds starting with National North promotion hopefuls Alfreton Town.

Currently lying in fifth position in English football’s second tier of the non-league pyramid Alfreton are looking to return back to winning ways after being beaten by Farsley Celtic 4-2 at the Impact Arena on Saturday.

The Derbyshire based side travel to Hereford in ninth position of the National League North and with the bulls having lost their last two league games Reds manager Billy Heath will be confident his side can take away something in what he said following Saturday’s set back has been “A brilliant season so far” for the club.

A win could potentially see Alfreton climb into the top three and with leaders York at second spot Chester it could be a great opportunity to claw some points back on the top two.

Bet Victor Northern Premier League high flyers Basford United take a week off league action this weekend as they instead play in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy against Mickleover Sports. Recent form has been brilliant for Steve Chettle’s men who lie second in their table with midfielder Matt Thornhill stating that “I would like a good cup run”. The former Nottingham Forest midfielder speaking after United won their sixth successive game against Stafford Rangers at the weekend stated “We’ve been playing well this season, but I’d like to get a good cup run as we’ve struggled in the FA Cup this year and last. It would be nice to get some cash in for the chairman and give him something back.”

In other FA Trophies ties Carlton Town high flying themselves at the top of the South East section of the Northern Premier under Manager Tommy Brookbanks host Matlock at the Bill Stokeld Stadium whilst Grantham Town host Rushall Olympic with former Forest, Notts County and Mansfield striker Craig Westcarr in fine form.
