Magpies Beaten In Youth Cup
Notts County U18 0-1 Scunthorpe United U18 *aet (FA Youth Cup Round One) 05.11.19
Notts County Under 18’s were beaten in extra time by Scunthorpe United in a gruelling FA Youth Cup match at Meadow Lane last night.
In a tense game between two evenly matched sides the early exchanges tested both goalkeepers as Tiernan Brooks in the Notts goal saved from Barks on four minutes before Mulvany forced an excellent save from Collins in the Irons goal just 60 seconds later.
Kieran Cummings had chances for the home side and looked lively in the first half with Mulvany often threatening to no avail.
In the second half the Visitors looked most likely to score when Notts goalie Brooks did well to keep out Lobley’s deflected effort on 55 before flicking a shot by Wilson over on 70. The pick of the saves for Brooks however came in stoppage time when he made a phenomenal save at the feet of Jessop who looked certain to score.
With the game in extra time it was Scunthorpe who eventually got the breakthrough on 109 when Raynner Silva hit a corner which eluded everyone to nestle in freakishly before a trio of chances missed by the homeside with substitute Chikuza eventually shooting over from a tight angle in the closing minute as the Magpies pressed for a dramatic equaliser.
However it wasn’t to be for Notts who put up a gallant fight and gave everything they could over a fascinating two hours of football.
County: Brooks, Simmons (Conway 77), Marshall, Sneddon (Chikuza 111), Irvine, Mellors, McKenna (Smith 61), Bucalossi, Palmer, Mulvany, Cummings.
