Rainworth Fightback As Bulls Slip Up
Rainworth Miners Welfare fought back from being 2-0 down to win their East Midlands Counties League match against Eastwood Community in a night that also saw AFC Mansfield surrender a 2-0 lead.
The Wrens went a goal behind at home to Eastwood in just seven minutes after former player Jared Holmes crossed to Ross Parker to open the score. Five minutes later it was two. Paddy Webb fouled on the edge of the area allowing Joe Harrison to step up and curl a free kick into the bottom corner of the net.
Two early substitutions by Eastwood before the second half seemed to have halted their flow and on 56 minutes they gave away a penalty which gave Blessing Adaleye the chance to pull one back but his shot was saved comfortably by Liam Bacon on the Eastwood goal to keep the score at 2-0.
That lead however didn’t last long as Adaleye made amends on 62 and after a long onslaught Charlie Hardwick got on the end of a Callum Lytham cross to make it 2-2 with five minutes remaining.
With the home teams tails up and the away side desperately wanting the whistle to go it looked like their would only be one winner and that was the case as Connor Wright scored in the final minute to turn the game on its head.
That win takes Rainworth up to 10th in the league on 18 points from 14 games whilst Eastwood remain in sixth on 25 points from 13 played.
In the Northern Counties East League AFC Mansfield threw away a two goal lead after looking certain to take maximum points at home for the first time since August against Silsden.
The Bull took the lead on the stroke of half time through Ross Duggan and minutes into the second half doubled their advantage through Webster who volleyed over Higginson to make it 2-0.
That deficit was soon reduced though as Silsden pulled one back on 55 as Josh Brown headed home and after the home side substitute Grant Ryan went through one-on-one to no avail with ten minutes remaining it was the visitors in the final minute who snatched a share of the spoils when Everingham slotted home his free kick under the wall.
There was one more chance for Mansfield in added time as Ryan headed straight at Higginson in the Silsden goal but in the end it was a disappointing point that takes the Bulls to 17th in the league on 10 points ahead of Bottesford Town on goal difference having played a game less.
Next up for AFC Mansfield is Maltby Main at home in the league whilst Rainworth visit Heanor this weekend and Eastwood make the short trip to neighbours Kimberley Miners Welfare in the EMCL.
