The world’s number one ranked team on ice is coming to Nottingham as Canada will play Great Britain in an Ice Hockey friendly international at the Motorpoint Arena on Tuesday 5th May 2020.
The game will be played ahead of the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship in Switzerland with tickets on sale here for the match at 9am from Monday 18th November 2019 with discount for early bird purchases.
Scott Smith, president and chief operating officer for Hockey Canada, said: “We are excited to bring some of the best hockey players in the world to the United Kingdom and we expect the players will really enjoy their time in these historical cities.”
“We believe in growing hockey not only in Canada but in other parts of the world and we are appreciative of Ice Hockey UK’s invitation and hospitality.”
This is a great coup for the city of Nottingham who host international matches regularly for the GB team ranked 20th in the world (the last verses Poland in April) including next February’s Olympic Qualifiers featuring GB, Hungary, Estonia and a further qualifier from Europe but to host a team like Canada packed with some of the world’s best stars all playing in the world’s top competition in the NHL is something very very exciting indeed.
Last time out in May, GB lost 8-0 to Canada in Slovakia which included a couple of goals for Detroit Red Wings forward Anthony Mantha and this time no doubt things will equally be as hard with established players like Kyle Turris, Jonathan Marchessault and Mark Stone joined by a young exciting team that includes Anthony Cirelli, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Jared McCann and more.
IHUK Chairman Richard Grieveson excited by the prospect of hosting such a nation with rich history and quality within the game stated “Canada is a world leader in ice hockey and I am sure supporters across the UK will be excited to see GB face such a top-class team.”
“Being able to attract such a big name is testament to how far the nation has come in the past few years. On behalf of IHUK, I would like to thank Hockey Canada for coming to the UK and we look forward to welcoming them.”
Ticket prices on launch are from £40 with concessions (OAP and under 16’s) at £25 until 1st March 2020 where adult prices are £60 with concessions £35.
