Nottingham Wildcats ended a remarkable 33 match winning run by Sevenoaks Suns with victory in the WBBL to take Coach Kenrick Liburd and his girls to the top of the league in the National Division top tier.
A stunning performance against what has been the best women’s basketball team in the country see’s the Wildcats leapfrog the Suns in this seasons table and head the charts with both sides on six wins from seven played.
Pick of the players was Chelsey Shumpert who scored 25 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists whilst the irrepressible Jasmine Joyner scored 22 points with 18 rebounds in a 77-68 win after a spectacular fourth quarter in particular saw the Wildcats score 29 points to just 8 conceded.
The win not only turned around an unbelievable third quarter deficit with the score at 48-60 entering the fourth but also ended a record breaking run for Sevenoaks who enjoyed the longest unbeaten run in WBBL history.
In what was a great day for Nottingham Basketball the McDonalds Hoods won for the second successive weekend in the league as they beat Thames Valley Cavaliers on the road 102-95.
A tight end to end game in the NBL was eventually won by the Hoods who lead 66-65 at the end of the third and eventually chipped away to come home with a 7 point win with the Hoods now in tenth on three wins and seven defeats for the season going into a home tie against Essex & Herts Leopards next weekend.
