Nottingham Panthers 2-3 Guildford Flames (Elite League) 08.12.19
Nottingham Panthers were beaten tonight by Guildford Flames 3-2 at the Motorpoint Arena as the Surrey based team leapfrog Tim Wallace’s outfit to fifth in the Elite Ice Hockey League.
The night couldn’t have started any better as the Flames were reduced to five in the opening minute and within 30 seconds of the powerplay Sam Herr gave Nottingham the lead but the advantage didn’t last long as the away team equalised through Reddick during their own powerplay on 6.28 of the first.
The Flames came out in the second period with intent and took the lead through Griffiths on 2.24 before Watters slashed home two minutes later with all to do for the home side as they looked to give their support something to cheer.
Captain Sam Herr did that scoring after good work by Connolly and Hansen setting the third period up for a tense affair with just one goal in it.
The Panthers huffed and puffed in the third with Herr close to his hat-trick but for a save by Flames Netminder Peeters before Horvat and Matheson had efforts denied. In the final minute Carr was pulled for an extra attacker but the Flames hung on to claim victory over Nottingham for the second time this season.
The two sides now meet again in Challenge Cup action on Wednesday in a Quarter Final tie at the Motorpoint Arena with Coach Tim Wallace saying “We’ll get some rest tomorrow, regroup hit the reset button and will be ready for work on Wednesday”.
