Nottingham Forest Women returned to league action with a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough to ensure the side climbed back into second place in the Womens National League North.
A 66th minute own goal was enough to separate the two teams who will go again this weekend at Billingham Town for a place in the fourth round of the Womens National League Plate.
The win at Coronation Park on Sunday was the Reds ninth in ten games in all competitions with the side bouncing back after FA Cup defeat against Burnley the week previous. Manager Andy Cook delighted with his sides performance stated ““Since September we’ve now gone undefeated in the league and we’re just happy to keep that run going.”
Forest are currently four points behind leaders Sunderland who have a game in hand with concentration now on two cup games sandwiching a big East Midlands clash against Derby County.
On Sunday Forest this time travel to Middlesbrough in the Third Round of the League Plate with the Reds hosting Derby on February 9th. A week later Forest face Ollerton Town Ladies in the semi-finals of the Notts FA Senior Cup a team they beat in the final of last year’s competition.
On the same day (16th February) Nottingham Forest Women Reserves take on Arnold Town Ladies in the other semi-final with the Reds looking to make a clean sweep by having two representatives in the County Cup Final.
Elsewhere last weekend in the East Midlands Womens Football League Mansfield Town Ladies beat Kettering Town Women 4-1 to stay in third place of the Premier Division with two goals from Monica Bowley and one each from Chloe Elphick and Chloe Foster.
With no games for a fortnight Mansfield next travel to Loughborough Students on the 26th January. In the same division Ollerton Town Ladies visit Kettering whilst Rise Park Ladies travel to Woodlands based in Allenton, Derby.
In the North Division Arnold Eagles lost to Chesterfield in the only game played at the weekend whilst in the South Notts County Women stay second having won all their five league games played so far this ‘weather effected’ campaign.
