Panthers Edge Fife In Friday Thriller

Nottingham Panthers 3-2 Fife Flyers (Elite League) 15.02.20

A big crowd at the Motorpoint Arena were treated to a Valentines night special as Nottingham Panthers beat Fife Flyers to move to third in the Elite League standings.

The Panthers went behind when Fife’s Sam Jones found a gap past Nottingham Netminder Jackson Whistle on 07.20 but the home team were back on level terms shortly after 12 minutes of the first period when Adam Deutsch hit a tight backhand home.

The second period was a good one for Nottingham who had Ollie Betteridge assisted by new signing Mathieu Tousignant to give the home team advantage on 05.11 before Jake Hansen made it 3-1 midway through the session.

In the third period it wasn’t until the last 2:15 when Fife would pull one back during a Powerplay through Finucci but after a nervy last couple of minutes Nottingham defended determined to see the match through.

Next up for Panthers is Belfast on Sunday in a big game towards the top three finish with slim title hopes still on the horizon for both sides as well as leaders Sheffield Steelers and second placed Cardiff Devils.

Nottingham however will sadly be without one of their main stay stars as Brett Bulmer has regrettably been released. The club issuing a statement suggesting “Due to what have unfortunately proved to be insurmountable problems before the signing deadline, with regard to Brett Bulmer being able to stay and work in the UK for the remainder of this season, we have regretfully been forced to release him with immediate effect.”

“This allows Brett to find work outside of the UK and for us to look to find a suitable replacement for Brett before the international transfer window closes late evening on Monday 17th February.”

The Panthers are hopeful that once the matter is resolved Bulmer could potentially re-assign to the clubs roster ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
