Glasgow Clan 2-4 Nottingham Panthers (Elite League) 19.02.20
The Nottingham Panthers are within two points of Elite League leaders Sheffield Steelers after beating Glasgow Clan last night and guess what? Up next at the Nottingham Arena this Saturday night is the table toppers from up the M1 and the biggest of all rivals the Sheffield Steelers themselves in what could be a massive game towards the title race.
Last night Nottingham ‘got the job done’ all be it not without a scare but started convincingly in Scotland when lovable rogue Brian Connelly netted from Julian Talbot’s assist on 18.22 of the first period.
Not content enough to go in one up at the interval Nottingham made it two just seconds later when Brett Perlini doubled the away sides advantage with little over a minute left of the period.
A scoreless second period fizzled out but an action packed third brought things to life as first Sam Herr netted his 28th of the season after just 30 seconds before Springer and Tanski revitalised Glasgow with a late rally.
Two goals in two minutes for the Clan however couldn’t do enough to scare Nottingham into surrendering a three goal lead as within a minute of Tanski’s goal Brian Connelly got his second of the night and made the points safe with a two goal margin back for the Panthers.
A win in a game that had to be won, now concentration draws to Sheffield and a packed arena on Saturday night in a game that could either see Nottingham go level with their rivals or drift back to four points behind them again?
Watch out for Cardiff Devils in second though. They beat Fife last night and are just a point behind Steelers but worryingly have three games in hand on the tables top team. The title chase that still includes Belfast and perhaps at a push even Coventry is really starting to hotten up.
