Bees Lose & Win In Busy Weekend

It was a defeat each followed by a win each for Beeston Hockey Club this weekend as both men and women’s first teams improved on their losing Saturdays to gain victory in their games on Sunday.

In the Investec Womens Hockey League Premier Division the Bees lost 1-0 at Loughborough Students on Saturday but bounced back less than 24 hours later with 3-2 victory over Bowden thanks to goals from Kim Leiper, Alice Huddlestone and Rosy Stephens.

The win over the bottom of the table team yesterday keeping Beeston in 8th ahead of the University of Birmingham who closed the gap on those above after winning both their matches over the weekend.

In the men’s Premier Division Beeston lost 4-3 at home to Holcombe on Saturday after Toby Stanley had given the hosts the lead the away side went 1-3 up at half time and added a fourth a couple of minutes into the second half.

Beeston did pull back the deficit through Henry Croft and Adam Dixon but couldn’t find a leveller as time ran out.

An improvement of fortunes on Sunday however ensured the Bees did take all the points this time at home against University of Exeter. Beeston took an 11th minute lead through Gareth Griffiths before Sam Hooper levelled soon after but a late winner by Chris Proctor gave the home team the points with all goals coming from penalty corners.

Beeston now lie sixth in the table with Wimbledon next up to visit the Nottingham Hockey Centre on Saturday.

The women who play on the same day will face a trip to Buckingham.
