It was an important win last night for AFC Mansfield as the Bulls travelled to Bradford to face Albion Sports in a game towards the basement of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.
With Mansfield in 16th on 24 points and Albion 19th on 22 points pre-game it was hugely important that AFC would come away with something and that’s exactly what they did.
A first half strike by Luke Walker shortly after the half hour gave the away side the lead before Grant Ryan in injury time settled matters with Manager Matt Chatfield after the match stating “We needed to get that monkey off our shoulder and win the game and hopefully we did that convincingly”.
The win takes Mansfield 15 points clear of bottom of the table Athersley Recreation in the relegation spot with 14 games left to play this season.
In the Midland Football League things didn’t go quite as well for bottom of the table Selston, they were beaten at home in a match played at Radford FC’s Selhurst Street 0-2 by Walsall Wood.
Selston themselves still have 16 games left this season to hopefully climb up the table and away from danger.
In the East Midlands Counties League it was a heavy loss for Gedling Miners Welfare who lost 5-0 at Heanor whilst Clipstone were beaten 1-0 at Ingles.
In the Notts FA Senior Cup the Quarter Final tie between Teversal and Nottingham Forest U23 was once again postponed after the pitch failed an inspection yesterday morning.
