Cloud of Uncertainty Over Covid-19

As of yet there are no postponements effecting the top Nottinghamshire sports clubs fixtures this weekend but that could change by the hour as the top leagues & competitions discuss plans to postpone/delay/cancel events over the coming weeks.

Nottingham Forest were one of the first high profile clubs to state that their owner Evangelos Marinakis had earlier this week proved positive for Coronavirus with the club testing its players and taking necessary precautions ahead of their game verses Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

The FA Premier League & Football League will today plan to discuss their actions moving forward after Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta before Chelsea Midfielder Callum Hudson-Odoi became the first high profile stars in this country to announce they had Coronavirus and with more cases anticipated it looks like potential lockdown will be the next step of action for the government to take.

What we know about Coronavirus is that it is infectious and potentially life threatening. Clear advice is to keep distance and keep clean to risk threat of spread. Now whilst ‘most’ infected will only have mild symptoms the real issue is trying to control passing it on to others and by minimising contact where possible it may help save a life.

Sporting events at this moment in time are planned to go ahead this weekend and people in attendance at venues where there are a lot of people pose higher risk of catching and passing Coronavirus so it is recommended if you don’t need to go out, then don’t.

It may be that you sacrifice watching just one or two games this season for the good of yours and others health.

For those still hosting matches this weekend PHE Guidance states you should promote best practice for hygiene, ensuring cleaning is effective and soaps are provided (and sanitiser where possible) at venues.

Those hoping to attend matches and events regardless you might want to know that should you have any flu symptoms you should avoid the risk of spreading infection, whatever that infection may be, by staying at home and recovering.

Clubs are advised that if any spectator presents to a club member of staff with possible flu-like symptoms they should be encouraged to leave, return home and call NHS 111 for further advice.

For those hosting sporting events, whatever their size, attendees and participants should stay up to date on the government’s latest advice on how to avoid catching or spreading the virus.

We will have more information ongoing and will notify of any postponements on the Nottingham Sport website should they occur.
