Carlton Town have got off to a winning start to pre-season this week after beating Buxton of the Northern Premier Division on Saturday they beat Selston of the Midland Football League on Tuesday night to make it two wins out of two.
Against the Bucks of one division higher at the weekend Carlton were superb in taking a 2-1 win with goals from Arron Opoku and Tyler Blake before Gary Haywood’s side pulled one back from the penalty spot.
The Millers featured Lawrence Gorman after signing from Newark whilst Martin Ball with a knee injury and Oliver Clarke missed the match.
On Tuesday Carlton beat Selston 3-1 thanks to Darryl Thomas, Mamoke Akaunu and an own goal with co-manager Tommy Brookbanks stating after both wins “It’s been a really positive start to pre-season”.
“Both games have been good performances in different ways. The Buxton game was a real grind against a team that could be challenging in the Premier Division this season and it was good to get a result against them”.
The Selston game was different as we used a lot of trialists but they came through it really well with another good win”.
Carlton will continue their pre-season this Saturday with a 2pm kick off behind closed doors against Harrowby United at the Bill Stokeld Stadium.
