Selston Football Club have announced a new covered seating area at their Parish Hall Ground as the Midland League side continue to develop their home venue on Mansfield Road.
The West Notts Villagers have upgraded facilities to include a new covered stand with seating for 54 people including a standing area and a viewing platform for wheelchair users.
With help from the Football Foundation the club have succesfully passed a Ground Grading of F and are on course to add hard standing behind the bottom goal of their infamously sloped pitch with a fence around the car park enclosing the quaint venue further.
The club have also made improvements with a new spectator/players and officials entrance and a new outside bar area.
In a statement on Twitter the club said “This has been an unbelievable amount of work carried out over a number of weeks, many early mornings and late nights. Massive thank you to our magnificent volunteers and helpers for giving a lot of their time up for free, cannot put into words how thankful we are”
After winning the Notts Senior League in 2013/14 the club won back to back Central Midlands South league titles in 2015/16 and 2016/17 before moving to the East Midlands Counties League which they won in 2018/19.
The clubs first season at their highest level eight, in the Midland Football League however didn’t go great for Selston who were bottom of the table prior to lockdown with last season one to forget having a huge number of matches postponed for various reasons mainly down to unprecedented weather that not only soaked the Selston pitch but the venues of many of their opponents too.
This season the club are not only building off the pitch but on it too with Manager Carl Moore strengthening a side that he took charge of in the New Year. Selston won their last friendly match against Dronfield Town on Saturday 3-2 with the club set to face Bottesford Town away on Tuesday 1st September in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup with the winners set to face either Long Eaton United or Grimsby Borough in the Preliminary Round.
