Reds Women Beat Wolves
Nottingham Forest Women were back in match action at the Eastwood Community Stadium for the first time in 193 days last night as the Reds took on Wolves in a pre-season friendly match full of goals.
New signings in the starting XI included Charlotte Greengrass from Aston Villa and Hayley James from Leicester City and after a good start for Forest in which they created a number of chances it was Rebecca Rayner who finally opened the scoring two minutes before the half hour.
Soon after the Reds lead was doubled by Charlotte Steggles who struck from 30 yards into the top corner as Andy Cook’s side went in at the break with a nice cushion against a side from the division below.
Forest made changes as the second half got under way but Charlotte Steggles, promoted from the Reserves in the summer rewarded the faith placed in her by the Coaching staff by scoring another screamer as this time she struck from 25 yards to make it 3-0 with half an hour left to play.
More changes were made for both sides and as Wolves pressed late on they pulled a goal back on the 90th minute before an even later second as a long free kick crept home but it was a win for Forest and a successful first match back in front of home fans as the club prepare themselves for the season ahead.
One bit of transfer news prior to the game was that Poppy Scholefield signs from Liverpool Academy with the 18 year old having previously played for Blackburn Rovers.
