Nottingham Forest Women beat Derby County yesterday in the East Midlands clash to take all three points in the FA Womens National League Northern Division.
The Reds took an early lead when Charlotte Steggles hit a thunderbolt free kick on six minutes and with some big chances at both ends the home side were perhaps relieved to go in at the break with a lead also thankful to goalkeeper Aja Aguirre who was outstanding.
The second half was a little cagier with Domingo a threat for Derby but solid defending saw the Rams attack off and on 77 minutes a first goal for Rosie Axten ensured the Reds could not be caught as the striker slid home a memorable second to put the game beyond doubt.
The win takes the Reds to fourth in the table after two games following their opening day draw at West Bromwich Albion.
In the East Midlands Regional Womens Football League it was the opening day of the season yesterday but both Mansfield Town and Rise Park Ladies got off to losing starts in the Premier Division.
Mansfield Ladies lost 5-2 at Rotherham United whilst Rise Park lost 3-0 at Northampton Town.
In Division One South it was a better day for Notts County Women who beat Ilkeston Town Ladies 3-0 thanks to goals from Jessie Knott, Mel East and Nya Chambers whilst in Division One North, the Magpies Development squad were beaten 3-2 by Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Finally both Sherwood and Arnold Eagles were beaten 6-1 by Grimsby & Chesterfield respectively whilst it was a better day for SJR Worksop who beat Cleethorpe Town Ladies 2-1 thanks to goals from Sky Hughes and Sophie Vickers.
