Worksop Town have been rewarded for a mesmerising cup win against Ramsbottom United at the weekend with a trip to St Neots Town in the third qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Trophy.
The Tigers drew an emphatic encounter on Saturday 4-4 before going through 4-3 on penalties at Sandy Lane to reach the final stage of the competition before the first-round proper begins in November.
The game against St Neots is likely to be played on Saturday 14th November and they’ll be another Notts side in action on the same day as Basford United (who enter the competition at this stage) will take on Alvechurch at home.
Carlton Town were beaten 2-0 at Evesham in the second qualifying round at the weekend so miss out, the only other local club involved in the competition is Notts County who made the semi-finals last season before losing to Harrogate.
Worksop might consider themselves to be lucky to be still involved themselves after an incredible game against Ramsbottom. The Tigers took the lead after five minutes through Jack Greenhough before James Baxendale and Gavin Allott made it 3-0 within the opening 22 minutes. A Daniel Rouse double however clawed Ramsbottom back into the game at half time and after Sefton Gonzales levelled it was Mason Fawns with twenty one minutes remaining who looked to have completed an unbelievable come back to turn the tie around but a late Scott Brown equaliser took the game to a shootout which Worksop won despite missing their first penalty.
Mason Fawn the man who thought he had won it in normal time missing the decisive spot kick, funny how football works out.
