Notts County have lengthened the contract of wizardry winger Cal Roberts until 2023 after the Geordie star today cemented his future for a little while longer yet at the club.
Roberts signed from Blyth Spartans in January and has since become a fans favourite for some stunning performances which has resulted in him scoring six goals in fourteen National League games including a tremendous free kick in the playoff final defeat against Harrogate Town at Wembley in the summer.
The talented former Newcastle United and England U20 international has been a key player under Neal Ardley, causing chaos to opposition full backs whilst those watching lust in awe of his technical ability and pace.
A player who looks destined for big things, still only 23, Roberts is a hugely popular figure at the club and one which the Manager is happy to keep at Meadow Lane for the foreseeable.
“I talk to Cal all the time about how we can give him the tools to be able to do what he does at a high level. The one thing I remind him of is that Premier League and Championship players are super-fit, super-fast and super-athletic – you can’t rest on your laurels because you’re doing well at the lower levels. You have to make sure you get everything right if you want to play at the top.” Said Ardley.
Roberts delighted that the club stuck to their word in saying ‘if you do well you’ll be rewarded’ stated “Coming here was a no-brainer and signing a new contract is a no-brainer again. The club’s going in the right direction and it’s a great place to be at the minute. The gaffer and the lads are brilliant and I enjoy training every day.”
The South Shields born star has missed the last two league matches which Notts have both lost but is hoping to return to the squad to face Halifax on Tuesday night after isolation following a positive test for covid.
