Grimsby Town 1-1 Mansfield Town (EFL League Two) 12.12.20
It was spoils shared at Blundell Park as Mansfield drew with Grimsby Town by the sea, with a hard earned point taking Nigel Clough’s side three ahead of the relegation zone.
The Mariners were first in the game to register an attempt, early doors too, as Windsor struck from range on only three minutes, although his shot was easily held by Stech, the opening third of the match a tight affair with neither side producing any chances of real note.
The Stags best opportunity on 35 minutes as Sweeney headed down a Maris corner but Russell made the save.
Mansfield started well in the second half as Lapslie hit the side netting after being played through by Reid, but a goal on 63 minutes saw Ian Holloway’s side take the lead as substitute Jackson tapped home a rebound from close range.
That lead didn’t last long however, Charsley rounded keeper Russell on 68 minutes to be brought down inside the box for substitute Maynard to do what he does best and find the net from the penalty spot.
Mansfield might have won it to. Sub McLaughlin with a free-kick looking to catch out Russell but the attempt went into the side netting, Edwards coming close to snatching the win late on for Grimsby but in the end both teams were satisfied with a point, one gained as both sides look to climb the table and away from danger.
