It was a comprehensive home win for Nottingham Wildcats as they beat Cardiff Met Archers by 19 points in the first round of the WBBL Championships yesterday as Jasmine Joyner again lead the way in the point scoring as she usually does for her Nottingham team.
The Wildcats winning every quarter against Welsh opposition, eventually taking the game 65-46 with 17 points for Joyner, 15 for Chelsey Shumpert and 9 for Moa Lundqvist amongst the others.
Simone Costa had 7 assists and like Joyner, 8 rebounds with Swede Lundqvist also joint top on Nottingham’s rebound list, the Wildcats will next face Leicester Riders at home in a tough looking East Midlands derby on Saturday, the two sides having already met this season in the WBBL Cup with the Riders winning 61-48 en-route to reaching the final.
Nottingham Hoods were also winners at home on Saturday as they beat Bradford Dragons 80-62 with fantastic displays by Delaney Powell (23 points) and Victor Olarerin (22 points) leading the way for scoring.
The win takes Hoods to 7th place in the NBL Division One table with two wins and three defeats with Newcastle University (who have a 3-2 record in fourth place) next up at the weekend.
