Notts Senior League Cup Action

There were two games late last week in the Samba Nottinghamshire Senior League First Division Cup competition when, on Wednesday night, the spoils were shared in the game between Radcliffe Olympic and United Grays (1-1), and again on the Friday, with FC Sez and Gedling Southbank sharing six-of-the-best (3-3).

Onto Saturday and in the Premier Division Cup, there were home wins for both Sandiacre Town and Woodthorpe Park Rangers, the winning 4-2 against Attenborough and the latter seeing off Magdala Amateurs, 2-0.

At Sandiacre’s St. Giles Park, the goals flowed from the home side with Jordan Leonardi, Kian Morrison, George Vear and Daniel Harries all registering, Christopher Beighton with a brace in response for the visitors, whilst at the Mill Street Playing Fields, Group C leaders, Woodthorpe, would take the victory thanks to efforts from Adam Chenery and Daniel Walker.

One goal was enough for away wins by Group A leaders, Keyworth United, Callum Wolloch scoring at Aslockton and Orston, and for Group B leaders, Ravenshead, Josh Prince registering at Southwell City, whilst the game between Ilkeston FCB and Awsworth Villa finished evens in a 2-2 draw at the New Manor Ground.

Finishing with ten men, the visitors seeing goal-scorer Tristan Comery red-carded, along with two further yellows, the honours would be shared when Jeremiah Ogle also netted, with the hosts responding through Ayleal Dill and Jamie Williamson.

Wollaton Reserves top-scored in the First Division Cup when home to Beeston (6-2), taking top spot on goal-difference from their opponents, the Greenwich Avenue side seeing that of Luke Davies scored three and Archie Wood two, Alex Mather also netting, the visitors meanwhile finished with ten men following the second half dismissal of Thomas Teece, he was on the field a little over twenty minutes.

The remaining First Division matches were low-scoring affairs as Group D leaders, United Grays, built on their midweek draw to see off visitors Southwell City Reserves 2-0, Kimberley Miners Welfare on 2-1 at home to Stapleford Town Reserves, and Radcliffe also picked up three points in their 1-0 win over West Bridgford, substitute Andrew McLean with the winning goal midway through the first period.

Of the Division Two North/South matches there was a comfortable, 4-0 win, at home, for United Grays Community, they entertaining Pythian, whilst the games between Pythian and AC United, and Ruddington Village Reserves and East Leake Robins, both finished in 2-2 draws.

Meanwhile, in the Foundation Division, and among a plethora of goals, 43 in the six games, there was to be a somewhat impressive, fourteen-goal thriller at Charnwood Sports Centre, a game that was only 2-2 at the break.

Opposing Carlton Town Reserves, hosts South Notts ran out victors by a score of 9-5, home substitute Ruggero Orsei with a hat-trick, fellow sub Scott Walton adding two more, along with another brace, this by Remel White, and individual goals from Miles Hodelin and Betilson Paixao; with the goalkeepers seemingly having bad backs, after the game, Carlton would reply through Josh Walters and Eathan Stanley doubles, and one for Rachidou Akpo.

Ten goals were also scored in the game between Stapleford Town Development, and Rushcliffe Ravens, the hosts running out 7-3 victors as Dylan Thompson-Evans and Adam Cross both scored braces for their respective clubs.

There would also be a pair of 3-2 wins on the road as AFC Bull Farm, at Rainworth Seniors, and AFC Vernon, at Wollaton III, both won, Kian Leavesley with a brace in the latter.

Action continues with a handful of matches midweek including Premier Division group games between Cotgrave and Keyworth, and Aslockton & Orston and Bingham Town, whilst on Saturday Sandiacre travel to Awsworth, Burton Joyce welcome Southwell City, Ilkeston FCB entertain Attenborough, and there’s a trip to Magdala Amateurs for FC Cavaliers as the group stage passes its halfway stage.

Once the group stage concludes, the group winners will qualify for the semi-finals, which take place on 29 May, and the two finals days, hosted at Basford United’s Greenwich Avenue.
