Caesars Go 2-0

If their first game in nearly two years was cause for cheer, the second, for the returning Nottingham Caesars, was as exciting as it was dramatic, and for many reasons at the Memorial Hall.

Granted, Vanden Warner’s side moved to 2-0 in the BAFANL Central East on Sunday afternoon, but they did so having come from behind at the interval, seeing off an equally dramatic, thunderstorm, before eventually romping to a 38-19 victory over hosts, Lincolnshire Bombers.

Going in a the break 13-6 down, both sides had to contend with the presence of a thunderstorm before officials deemed it safe to return to action, after an hours’ delay; prior to that though, the Caesars would get themselves onto the scoreboard courtesy of a first half touchdown from Wide Receiver, Ryan Woolley.

Upon the restart, the Caesars defence had a different feel to that which played the first period, repelling Bomber attacks and causing a number of turnovers whilst on the other side, the offense were impressively strong, registering a number of touchdowns, they turning the game on its head.

Running Back’s, John Holmes, and Karim Hamdi (2) both added second half scores, and on consecutive drives, Hamdi’s double adding to his opening day score (conversion); this was followed by a second TD of the game by Woolley, and the Caesars were out of sight.

The flurry continued late on when Running Back, Sam Agbemadji put the icing on a very tasty cake with a thunderous, 75-yard touchdown of his own, wrapping up an impressive, second half showing from the Caesars and what became a big win.

Overall, Caesars Quarterback, Liam MacGovern, was seen to go 18/33 for 225 yards and two, passing touchdowns, adding to that of a total, 446-yard offence.

Although the offence will take plaudits for what was a stunning, second half, attacking display, both the Caesars defence, and special teams, also impressed, the former of the two producing a number of turnovers and interceptions, whilst the latter blocked, recovered, tackled well.

Special mentions for the defence and special teams are offered to that of Defensive Backs Scott Barlow and Sam Booth and Line Backer, Ashley Matthews, whilst on the specials, Line Backer Andrew Wilkins and Kicker Danny Johns all impressed – Johns, he’d make two tackles and recover a fumble.

The Caesars have a bye week this coming weekend, before their first home game of the season, at the Harvey Hadden Stadium, when they host the Northants Knights on 18 July.
