Womens Cup Roundup As Trent Win By Ten

Nottingham Trent University Women’s first ever away game in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup was an astounding success at the weekend as they reached double figures, and kept in a clean sheet, in an emphatic 10-0 win away to Hinckley United Ladies.

Playing at the home of Barlestone St Giles, the University side were captained for the first time by Kathryn Laughlin, who was in her last game for the club ahead of her impending move back home to America.

An impressive, dominating performance all-round was witnessed against the Uni’s Leicestershire hosts, and that was after they were just three goals to the good at the interval, Jess Phillips, Julia Kings and Ellie McKeegan with the goals.

After the break, Uni’s dominance of the game most certainly took a firm hold, Kings adding two more to complete her hat-trick, Rosie Bevs and Lizzie Stocks also found the net leading into the closing stages.

After Kings had celebrated a treble, and the visitors were already seven goals to the good, Alice Rogers took over to complete the rout, firing in a final, twenty-minute hat-trick of her own, in turn wrapping up a 10-0 demolition.

Victory for the Uni side means they will host, at Clifton Campus, Northamptonshire side, Bugbrooke St. Michael’s, in the next round, they progressing 5-4 on penalties after a 4-4 draw with Rugby Town Ladies.

Elsewhere for Nottinghamshire clubs in the FA Cup, Arnold Eagles also enjoyed their afternoon, they seeing off visitor Nuneaton Borough Ladies 6-1, goals coming from Natasha Leach (3), Amy Gauvrit (2), and Mollie Rowden, and, as with the Uni, the Eagles also registered three times in the closing twenty minutes to seal progression.

Their victory, will see them travel to Loughborough Students Women in the next round, whilst there was also progression for St Joseph’s Rockware of Worksop, who received a walkover progression after their opponents, and hosts, Epworth Town Colt Belles, withdrew from the competition.

The remaining Nottinghamshire side in action, Sherwood Ladies, were dismissed on the back of 3-0 home reverse against visiting Kettering Town Ladies.

The revised draw for the Second Qualifying Round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, taking place on 3 October 2021, pertaining Nottinghamshire clubs (in bold), is as follows –

SJR Worksop Women vs. Thackley Ladies; Notts County Women vs. Kettering Town Ladies; Rise Park Ladies vs. Northampton Town Ladies; Nottingham Trent University Women vs. Bugbrooke St. Michaels; Loughborough Students Women vs. Arnold Eagles; Allexton & New Parks Ladies vs. Mansfield Town Ladies.
