10 Out Of 10 For Stags & NTU

There was a fifty-fifty split for Nottinghamshire sides progressing in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup on Sunday afternoon, three going through, and three being knocked out.

Of those progressing to the Third Qualifying Round (taking place on 24 October, draw below), both Mansfield Town ladies, and Nottingham Trent University Women, hit double figures, again, whilst Notts County Women also found themselves going through.

Having registered twelve in the league the previous weekend, Andi Bell’s Mansfield Town Ladies went nap again, this time in Leicestershire when visiting Allexton & New Parks Women, progressing on the back of a 10-0 win.

There were braces for Shannon Purdy, Georgia Gladstone and Bethany Jones, whilst additional goals were notched by Ellie Marshall, Nikki Wigman, Monica Bowley and Victoria Chincharo, the Stags having notched some 26 goals in their last three outings.

Another side to reach double figures, Daniel Corlett’s Nottingham Trent University, and for the second successive round.

Having seen off Hinckley Ladies 10-0 in the last round, NTU had Northamptonshire outfit, Bugbrooke St. Michaels, as visitors, and sent them packing on the back of a comfortable, 10-1 win for the hosts.

A four-goal salvo came from Alice Rogers, whilst Julia Kings helped herself to a hat-trick as well, whilst three further goals came via that of Emily Pinkess, with her first goal for the club, Grace Miller, and Ellie McKeagan .

The third Nottinghamshire side to progress, Adam Dunleavy’s Notts County Women, the Lady Pies seeing off visitors Kettering Town Women 2-0, both of their goals coming in the first half from Emma White, including a rocket free-kick for the second.

Three other, Notts sides, were in action in the Second Qualifying Round, SJR of Worksop losing 2-1 at home to Thackley Ladies, the visitors registering twice through Lois Cooper; Arnold Eagles Ladies fell 4-2 away to Loughborough Students Women, and Rise Park Ladies, they crashed out when losing 7-1 at home to Northampton Town Women.

Unbeaten leaders of the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division, with four wins from four, and boasting a goal-difference of +23, it was always going to be a tough afternoon, and so it proved.

Leading 4-0 at the interval Sara Wait’s opener being added to by a quick-fire brace by Alex Dicks, and a fourth from Eden Brown the Eagles were shell-shocked; the second period quickly got worse as Abbie Reboul and Georgia Tear had the Cobblers six to the good with twenty to go.

There was some home cheer however, when, in the 75 minute, after Sarah Richardson’s penalty was saved by ‘keeper Isobel McDonald, Danielle Sanderson would be quickest the rebound and fired home; the scoring was completed minutes later, and in favour of the visitors, when substitute Leah Cudone adds Town’s seventh.

The draw for the next round of the Women’s FA Cup has drawn all three remaining Notts sides, away from home, Nottingham Trent University Women’s reward for successive, ten-goal bursts so far in the competition, a trip to Yorkshire.

NTU Women will visit that of the six-time FA Cup winners (1983, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994), seven-time runners-up, and the 2018 Women’s Super League 2 champions, Doncaster Rovers Belles LFC.
