Notts Crush Leicester By A Dozen
Greenwich Avenue was the scene of a Halloween massacre on Sunday (31 October) afternoon in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division, as mid-table Notts County Women ran riot when home to bottom club, Leicester City Ladies.
It was a victory that boosted their goal difference, emphatically, hitting a round dozen without reply, with the majority of players all netting for Adam Dunleavy’s side.
Amy Wells struck a brace which had them two up inside the opening four minutes, the second of which came from fully thirty yards, Hannah Daniel and Summer Gayle making it four within thirteen; before Emma White, and Emily Stretton, made it six at the break.
Immediately after the restart and Nya Chambers continued the scoring spree with County’s seventh, before efforts from Mollie Crump, who beat four players before slotting into the bottom right corner, and Gayle’s second, made it nine; Charlotte Taylor rounded it up to ten before hour mark with the Pies averaging a goal, roughly, every six minutes or so.
Heading toward the final quarter and Taylor added her second of the afternoon, adding to earlier braces from Wells and Gayle, before Shoniqua Barnes completed the 12-0 rout with twenty minutes remaining, rounding the visiting ‘keeper following a one-on-one scenario, the hosts taking their foot off the pedal after that.
County manager, Adam Dunleavy, said afterwards: “After a tough result last week it was great to see the players responding with confidence, playing with expression and keeping our levels for the full 90 minutes.
“Proud of the squad today and the result matched the efforts, which isn’t always the case in football!”
Notts County Women lined up as follows – Philipa Davies, Mollie Crump, Holly Fowler, Hannah Kiddle, Emma White, Nya Chambers, Charlotte Taylor, Hannah Daniel, Summer Gayle, Emily Stretton, Amy Wells
Mansfield Town Ladies moved joint-top, but sit second on goal difference, after Northampton Town Women saw their game away to mid-table Lincoln United Women postponed, Andi Bell’s side claiming a hard-fought, 3-0 home win.
Goals from Jessica Parker and Shannon Purdy had the Stags two to the good at the break, Bethany Jones wrapping up the three points during the second half, the top two sides now having played the same number of games.
Mansfield boss, Andi Bell, simply said that Mansfield’s win was: “A professional performance in tough conditions.”
In Division One North, the game between two of the top three sides, prior to kick-off, went emphatically in favour of the hosts as Arnold Eagles ran in nine against Nottingham Trent University Women, Natasha Leach enjoyed her afternoon with a four-goal salvo for the hosts, being joined on the scoresheet by Amy Gauvrit and Eve Shaw, who both bagged braces, and Jennifer Lorimer, whilst Alice Rogers nabbed a pair of consolations for the shocked Uni side.
Arnold said afterwards of their, high-scoring game: “The Eagles 1st team got back to winning ways by smashing nine goals past Nottingham Trent University at Calverton this afternoon in a 9-2 win.
“However, it was the manner of the performance that pleased the coaching staff the most after last week’s disappointing result.
“The ladies were composed and comfortable in possession throughout, moved the ball efficiently and effectively and in turn scored some great team goals and excellent passages of dominant play.
“Credit to Trent for always offering a threat on the break on a heavy pitch and difficult blustery conditions. All the best in their future games.”
The remaining, Nottinghamshire side active in the division, Sherwood Women, won 2-1 away to Sleaford Town, their scorers being that of Mikaela Noriega and Annelise Daniel.
In Division Two South, Nottingham Forest Development, lost 2-0 away to Anstey Nomads Women, the hosts netting through a Carmelina Colangelo brace.
