Notts Hit Nine In County Cup
Sunday would see a number of Nottinghamshire’s women’s clubs on County Cup duty, with over thirty goals recorded in the five games played.
Rise Park Ladies would top score with a 10-0 whitewash of visitors Gedling Southbank, and Notts County Women won 9-1 away to Retford FC.
Katie Platts scored a hat-trick in Rise Park’s victory, they leading by two at the break, Thea Duncan and Stevie Gough both grabbed braces, whilst there were further goals added by Danielle Sanderson, Ash Davis, and Jess Waplington.
At Retford meanwhile, again only two goals separated the sides at the break, visitors Notts County Women running riot in the second to claim a 9-1 win as Shoniqua Barnes enjoyed herself most, firing a five-goal salvo, Amy Wells with a brace, whilst further goals were added from Hannah Kiddle and Lashea Francis.
Following their victory, County manager, Adam Dunleavy applauded hosts Retford, saying “A good win in the road in the Cup vs. Retford FC today, but worth mentioning the brilliant Retford team, positive, engaging & welcoming staff & a lovely ground to play football at!
“Here is hoping Retford spread the word about their women’s team! You won’t be disappointed.”
Ellie Marshall would score four herself as Mansfield Town Ladies returned to winning way with a comfortable, 6-0 home win, over West Bridgford, Georgia Gladwin and Amy Dawson also scoring.
The reaming two games would involve the two Arnold Eagles sides, and with contrasting results, as their Firsts won by the odd-goal-in-five when home to Mansfield Hosiery Mills, and their Flyers lost narrowly, 2-0 away to Sherwood Women.
Arnold’s Firsts would progress with goals coming from Natasha Leach, Hannah Hughes, and Amy Gauvrit; of the other two, originally scheduled games, would see away walkovers recorded by Teversal ladies (over Arnold Town) and for Nottingham Forest Women (against Keyworth United).
Afterwards the Eagles said of their success: “Now that was a proper cup tie and the reason why the Eagles always enter the Nottinghamshire County Cup Competition.
“The 1st team welcomed our old friends from Mansfield Hosiery Mills Ladies to Calverton this afternoon and what a great game it turned out to be.
“The 2nd half saw the Eagles play with more confidence and thought both in and out of possession.
“A stunning 30 yard strike from Hannah (Hughes) got us back level and then with about 10 minutes left after a lucky deflection Amy (Gauvrit) scored what turned out to be the winning goal.
“The game could have gone either way and we look forward to crossing paths with Hosiery again very soon but until such time we wish them all the very best in their quest to win the NGLL Division 1 title.”
This coming Sunday will see the following fixtures across the East Midlands Women’s Regional as, in the Premier Division, Mansfield Town Ladies travel to Oughtibridge War Memorial, Notts County Women welcome Loughborough Students, and Rise Park Ladies hosts Leicester City.
There’s also three matches in Division One North as Notts County Women Development make the trip to Cleethorpes Town, with Arnold Eagles hosting local rivals Sherwood in one of two, derby matches to be played, and SJR Worksop welcome Grimsby Town S&E.
The other ‘derby’ match, is the ‘smaller’ version of the East Midlands derby, Nottingham Forest’s Development side welcoming rivals Derby County Women Academy to Eastwood.
