Panthers Beaten In OT By Clan

Nottingham Panthers 1-2 Glasgow Clan (Elite League) 05.02.22

After ending a five game losing streak with a win against Dundee last weekend, the Nottingham Panthers fell back down to earth with another loss to the Glasgow Clan in overtime on Saturday night.

Kevin Carr got the start in goal for Nottingham opposite Shane Starrett for the Clan.

J.C. Brassard (4.18) gave Nottingham the perfect start when his shot through traffic only had eyes for twine, Kevin Massy picking up a primary assist on Panthers’ debut.

Neither side gave an inch and as the period wore on so did the tension with comings together between the teams becoming more frequent as the first 20 minutes wore on.

It was more of the same in the second period as the teams traded chances but it was both netminders who played starring roles.

Carr in particular caught the eye when he left his crease to intercept a Clan breakaway, whilst out his net he continued to cut down the angles & when the puck was eventually cleared there was an ovation from the bumper Saturday night crowd.

Glasgow hit the post & Massimo Carozza was denied on a breakaway in the third period as neither side could forge ahead.

Jordan Kelsall was penalised for a big open ice check late in the period but the Panthers’ penalty kill stood firm, Mathieu Tousignant coming up with a huge block, & the teams went to overtime.

Nottingham had the games first chance in overtime but, after it appeared a Panthers’ forward was tripped up in front of the Glasgow net, the Clan broke down the other end where Braylon Shmyr (60.48) converted a two-on-one opportunity to seal the game, and the extra point, in favour of the visitors.

Tonight bottom of the table Fife Flyers are in town as Nottingham look to bounce back and consolidate further their playoff place. Action gets underway at 4pm from the Motorpoint Arena.
