Panthers Beaten By Devils

Cardiff Devils 5-2 Nottingham Panthers (Elite League) 12.02.22

The Nottingham Panthers fell to a second defeat in as many nights on Saturday as a second period blitz saw the Cardiff Devils to victory.

Kevin Carr started in goal for the Panthers once again opposite Mac Carruth for the Devils.

An early powerplay goal from Ollie Betteridge (3.43) gave Nottingham a lead they would hold throughout the first 20 minutes of play.

Things got physical in the first period too as Mathieu Tousignant & Brandon McNally (8.28) got into it, the Devils’ man ejected for leaving the bench to fight & gifting the Panthers a four-minute powerplay. The visitors, however, couldn’t take advantage & went into the first intermission holding just the one-goal lead.

Brodie Reid (21.48) pulled Cardiff level in the second frame before three goals in less than four minutes swung the game in the home side’s favour.

Mark Richardson (25.49), Cole Sandford (28.48) & Trevor Cox (29.05) piling on the misery for the visiting team.

Justin Crandall (39.29) added insult to injury as he put the game all but beyond reach just before the second period came to a close.

Mark Matheson (59.09) added a second for the Panthers late in the third period but it was Cardiff who skated out with the two Premier Sports Elite League points on offer.

Tonight Nottingham will welcome a re-match with Cardiff this time in Nottingham in the hope they can put right their wrong of last night in Wales, the Panthers run of form now havoing lost four on the bounce (two in over time) whilst the team have now won just once in their last ten in all competitions.
