Panthers Bounce Back With Win

Nottingham Panthers 4-1 Cardiff Devils (Elite League) 13.02.22

After back to back defeats on Friday and Saturday, the Nottingham Panthers returned to winning ways on Sunday afternoon in an exhilarating encounter with the Cardiff Devils.

Kevin Carr started in goal for the Panthers opposite Mac Carruth for the Devils.

Ollie Betteridge (9.45) scored his third goal of the weekend to put the Panthers in front in a breathless first period in which both teams traded chances.

Cardiff tied the game on an early second period powerplay when (25.53) tipped the puck home but Matthew Myers (33.11), who had just left the penalty box, broke in all alone on Carruth and beat the Devils’ netminder on the glove side.

Nottingham went to their first powerplay of the game late in the second frame and it took Christophe Boivin (38.20) just four seconds to fire the puck into the back of the net, the forward’s shot from the point proving too hot to handle for Carruth.

Boivin (51.08) sealed the game with his second of the night before the game took a physical turn.

Sean Richards & Mark Louis got into an altercation below the Devils’ goal line, the Cardiff defenceman ejected for continuing the fight despite the linesman interjecting, before Mark Matheson dropped the gloves with Marc McNulty to bring the fans to their feet once more.

The Motorpoint Arena was rocking as the clock counted down the final seconds and The Nottingham Panthers sealed the two Premier Sports Elite League points on offer.
