Retford Hit Five In Title Pursuit

Retford United 5-0 Dinnington Town (Central Midlands Premier Division North) 12.04.22

Retford United hit five without reply as they beat Dinnington Town to apply more pressure on Doncaster based leaders Club Thorne Colliery in the Black Dragon Badges Central Midlands League Premier Division last night.

The Badgers who were in cup action at the weekend where they reached the final of the Notts FA Trophy by beating Awsworth Villa, were back to bread-and-butter last night with promotion and the championship very much on the agenda at Cannon Park.

Twenty minutes in the home side took the lead as a corner from Mason Barlow went straight in and despite further chances it stayed 1-0 into the half time break.

A superb second half display however saw Retford run away with victory, Igor Mlynarski curling home after 52 before a Dinnington player put into his own net from a corner two minutes later.

On 67 regular net-bulger Mark West made it four by smashing home before rounding things off on 84 with his 42nd goal of the season.

The win means United now in second spot are a point behind leaders Club Thorne Colliery who do have a game in hand although the two sides are still to meet each other in one of four remaining home games for Retford. The Badgers also face a massive game next Wednesday as they host Newark Town who they’ll also play in the Notts Senior FA Trophy Final.

For Newark in fourth, they face mid-table Crowle Colts tonight and a win could take them level on points with Retford with a game in hand. The other team in the title mix are Clay Cross Town who are third on 71 points, three below leaders Thorne having played the same number of games.

It’s certainly all to play for in the CML.

Retford United: Crosby, Brook, Ludlam (White 86), Marsden (Paling 73), Fell (Fieldsend 80), Barlow, Kane, Mlynarski, Dawes, Frost, West.
