Carlton Beat Stags To Win Cup

Carlton Town 1-0 Mansfield Town U23 (Notts Senior Cup Final) 04.05.22

After two years of no (or cancelled) competition due to covid, Carlton Town are the first winners of the Nottinghamshire Senior FA Cup in three seasons, after beating Mansfield Town U23’s by a single goal at Greenwich Avenue.

The Millers of the Northern Premier League Midlands Division took an early lead on twelve minutes through an own goal by Cody Collins after Nathan Watson’s dangerous cross into the box.

An evenly matched first half had chances go either way but the Stags couldn’t break down the Carlton door, the second half saw even more pressure from Mansfield as they looked for an equaliser but Tommy Brookbanks and Mark Harvey’s side were resilient. Carlton had previously beaten Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals and in the end edged their football league opponents to claim back the trophy they last won in 2017.

The victory is Town’s fourth in the competition having also won back-to-back titles in 2013 & 2014.

Mansfield’s wait is 90 years and counting since last winning the county cup final against Nottingham Forest in 1932.
