Stags & Reds Set For Playoffs

Mansfield Town fans have been queuing in the sunshine at Field Mill today as they line up for tickets to the clubs playoff games against Northampton Town with the home leg to be played on Saturday night (14th May) and away leg on Wednesday (18th May) with both games kicking off at 7:45pm.

Stags Manager Nigel Clough says his teams “are in good spirits” and they are going into the two legged knockout stages with “good momentum” ahead of clinching their playoff place at the weekend.

The Stags finished seventh in the table after drawing 2-2 with Champions Forest Green Rovers on Saturday whilst their opponents, Northampton Town will be ‘gutted’ to be getting over the shock, that despite their win at Barrow, they were pipped to the posts for automatic promotion by Bristol Rovers, who beat Scunthorpe United on the final day by seven goals, to nick what looked long like being the Cobblers position to lose.

The winner will take on either Swindon Town or Port Vale in a Wembley final and that’s the destination where Nottingham Forest will also hope to finish their terrific season, after drawing old foes Sheffield United, in their playoff semi-final match.

Forest started the weekend in third place but a late goal conceded (after a late one scored) against Hull City, allowed Huddersfield Town to leapfrog the Reds to ensure they’ll play sixth placed Luton Town in the other semi-final.

Steve Cooper’s side will travel to Sheffield on Saturday 14th May for a 3pm kick off before hosting the Blades at the City Ground on Tuesday night (17th May) in a 7:45pm kick off.

Tickets for both Forest matches are expected to be fully taken by members and season card holders with some hospitality tickets available upon request.

Finally as the Reds and Stags men’s sides do battle respectively with one goal for promotion this month, the women’s teams will be in action ‘against each other’ this week, as they playoff for a piece of local silverware that is the County Cup Final.

The game at Greenwich Avenue, Basford will be played on Wednesday night with a 7:45pm kick off and tickets are from £6 for adults and £4 concessions whilst kids under 12 go free. For information on tickets to that match, click here.
