Stags Sign Hartigan

Mansfield Town have signed Anthony Hartigan on a two-year deal after the out of contract midfielder left AFC Wimbledon in the summer.

The 22-year-old has played over 150 times for the Dons having came through their Academy system with the majority of those games played in League One.

During the 2020/21 season Hartington was sent out on loan to Newport County where he played in the League Two Playoff final at Wembley Stadium, last season the London born star made 34 appearances for Wimbledon before his contract expired in July.

On signing, Mansfield Town Manager Nigel Clough stated “Anthony is a young midfielder with a lot of league games under his belt for his age.

“He’s somebody who we’ve watched for some time and he’ll bring something different to the squad.

“He’s a central midfield player, with a very good delivery into the penalty area from set-plays.

“We think he has real potential to go on and play at a higher level in the future and at 22, he complements the experience we have in the squad.”

After defeat in their opening league game of the season at Salford last Saturday, Mansfield will be looking to bounce back with three points at home to Tranmere Rovers at the One Call Stadium tomorrow.

Tranmere also lost their first match of the campaign at home to Stevenage but a former Stag in Kane Hemmings netted their goal in a 2-1 defeat and he’ll be very much one to watch in the Rovers attack.

Mansfield will look to bring back Ollie Hawkins who missed the first match due to suspension, James Perch is a doubt whilst Jason Law and Kieran Wallace are both ruled out.

Kick off is at 3pm Saturday with tickets still available through the clubs website to purchase.
