After promotion from the Notts Girls & Ladies league, last time out, and following on from a summer of change, including the welcoming of a new manager, West Bridgford Colts Women are readying themselves to go again when the new season begins in early September.
Adam Brown, who recently took over, as the Colts new manager, will lead his side into a new-look, East Midlands Women’s Regional Football league, they themselves having added a third, Division One, and the Colts, they’ll reside in the new, Division One Central.
That summer of change at West Bridgford has seen, in a short space of time, the arrival of six new signings, along with the promotion of five members of the clubs’ development set-up, whilst also having retained the majority of last seasons’ promotion-winners.
“We’ve certainly been building behind-the-scenes,” admitted the new West Bridgford Women manager, Adam Brown.
“We’ve been spending some time putting together the squad for the new season, getting players ready and available for friendlies, ahead of the September kick-off.
“Alongside the introduction of the new players, we also need to instil a positive atmosphere, throughout, which in turn will help us moving forward.”
That positive atmosphere, as well as getting the WBC ready, started with their recent, pre-season friendly, 5-1 win, over Swallownest Ladies.
If Brown and his charges can quickly build on that, create some momentum moving forward, then who knows what will happen over the coming season, Brown’s first at the helm.
“I’ve only just joined the club, alongside Alan Walker,” added Adam.
“Alan, he’s very experienced, but we’ve also come in here, and afforded a clean slate, even though they had a successful season last time around.
“It’s just a case of piecing things together, whilst also keeping hold of the majority of last seasons’ players, which we have done.“
As for the upcoming season, what would Adam like moving into it?
“Notts County, I’m looking forward to facing them as I used to coach there,” concluded Adam.
“I’d also like a good cup run, whilst getting in good crowds along Regatta Way.
“That in itself will help bring in some much-needed funds.”
The EMWRFL season begins, in earnest, on Sunday 4 September, West Bridgford Colts begin their campaign, in Division One Central, with a home game against one of last seasons’ North high-fliers, Nottingham Trent University Women.
