Stags Fightback To Take Victory

Mansfield Town 2-1 Stockport County (EFL League Two) 20.08.22

Mansfield Town came back from a goal down to beat Stockport County in five minutes of madness at Field Mill where all the goals were scored within short space of another.

County took the lead in the 53rd minute but Stags two minutes later levelled through Will Swan before securing a winning goal on 57 through captain Ollie Clarke.

After beating Wimbledon in a thrilling game midweek, the Stags started on the front foot with Clarke booked after just five minutes for a crunching tackle on Kitching.

Swan shown his speed on seven minutes to win a corner which O’Toole headed over before Maris aimed a teasing ball for McLaughlin which was intercepted by an alert goalkeeper in Jaros.

The home side dominated the early stages but Stockport had a breakaway chance on 27 when Croasdale raced through only to be denied by Pym, Swan then skipped past Horsfall to shoot into the side netting at the other end.

As half time approached, Mansfield missed a great opportunity when Clarke’s shot from inside the area was blocked by a defender, and the Stags were soon made to rue missing opportunities just eight minutes into the second half when Sarcevic put Stockport ahead.

The Stags response however was instant, Will Swan driving keft footed inside the area to level on 55, no more than 90 seconds later were Mansfield in the lead, Lapslie’s shot saved by Jaros with Clarke drilling home the rebound to the delight of the home support.

Stockport then made five changes in quick succession as they aimed to get themselves back in the game but despite the late surge it was Mansfield who held out for a second successive win.

The Stags now up to eighth in the League Two table.
