Worksop Town are through to the second qualifying round of the Isuzu sponsored FA Trophy after beating Brighouse Town in West Yorkshire on Monday night.
Goals from Liam Hughes and James Hanson helping the Tigers through, Craig Parry’s side now unbeaten in six in all competitions since opening day league defeat in the NPL East, in form Worksop have also now kept three clean sheets on the trot.
After a well-observed minutes silence for the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, It took only five minutes from kick off for the Tigers to score when Hughes headed home a typical non-league centre forwards goal.
The away side had the better of the first half and had the ball in the back of the net on 28 through Hardy following a free kick before the assistant ruled out for offside. On 36 Hughes hit the crossbar with a stunning volley and on the stroke of half time Roxburgh in the Brighouse net denied Hardy from a tight angle with a superb save.
The second half continued in much the same identity, Worksop pressing with efforts from Hanson and Bencheriff before a penalty was awarded on 57 when Redford went down.

That’s how it stayed, Substitute Luke Hall denied in injury time as he looked to bend one in with Roxburgh tipping it behind, a good night’s work on the road with Worksop set to play the winner of Prescott Cables v Cleethorpes Town next.
Before then, the Tigers are back in cup action on Saturday, as they face Brackley Town in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round in Northamptonshire. After which they’ll return to bread and butter in the league next Tuesday night at home to Sheffield.
