Worksop Town and Basford United both went into the hat for the FA Cup fourth qualifying round following Saturday’s round of matches, the former being drawn away to Alvechurch (Southern League Central) and at Solihull Moors (National League North) after their games with Gainsborough Trinity and Boston United, respectively.
Town, they progressed after a 1-0 win, Paul Green netting just after the half hour mark, both sides finishing with ten men, whilst United, they have to overcome a reply following a 1-1 draw, Anthony Dwyer keeping them going with a penalty midway through the second period.
In addition to Worksop and Basford, Notts County, of the National League North, also enter the competition, and have been afforded a home to with Coalville Town. – ties will take place the weekend of the 14/15/16 October.
League-wise, Carlton Town were held to a 1-1 draw when home to Tadcaster Albion in the Norther Premier East, both sides netting in the first half, Niall Davey after twenty minutes for the hosts, whilst there was the usual, plethora of matches, played across the United Counties, with Notts interest.
In the UCL Premier, Newark & Sherwood are four points off leaders, Loughborough Students, in third place, following their 3-0 win away to Leicester Nirvana, whilst Kimberley Miners Welfare, the next highest Notts club, are ten off the pace, in eighth, after they claimed a 5-1 win at home to Pinchbeck.
In Leicester, goals from Luke White, Nyla Blake, and Kieran Cummings all netted for Newark & Sherwood as they brought all three points back to Notts, whilst a brace from James Shaw, and further goals from Tom Eccleshall, Louis Nicholson, and Jordan Wheatley, gave Kimberley the points.
Sherwood Colliery are the next best Notts side in the division, sitting in tenth place following a 1-1 draw at Quorn, and Selston won 3-2 away to Wisbech; other games saw home defeats for both AFC Mansfield and Eastwood CFC, 2-1 to Melton Town and Boston Town, respectively.
Division One meanwhile has Radford in second, four off Aylestone Park, but with two games in hand, after they won 4-1 away to Clifton All Whites, Kyle Stowell and Anton Robinson both bagging braces for the visitors.
Four other Notts clubs help make up the top ten, Hucknall Town (4), Newark Town (6), Dunkirk (7) and Clifton All Whites (9); of those, Hucknall Town won 2-0 away West Bridgford, Newark won 3-1 at home to Saffron Dynamo, and Dunkirk collected a 4-2 win away to Kirby Muxloe.
Aaron Lamb and Joe Butler scored for Hucknall, Rory Harrison bagged a brace for Newark alongside one for Alexander Hales, and Samuel Harbottle was on target twice along with strikes from Shea Thompson-Harris, and Max Taylor for Dunkirk.
Clipstone was the only other Notts side to win, they seeing off visitors Blackstones 3-1 as Rainworth crashed to a 6-2 defeat away to Birstall United.. Southwell City lost 3-2 at St Andrews, and Gedling were beaten 2-1 off visitors Holwell Sports.
Only a handful of games were played lower down the non-league system with Ollerton Town being held to a 3-3 draw at home to Brigg Town, Alfie Dodsworth scoring twice from the spot, and Retford lost 1-0 away to Rossington Main in the Northern Counties East.
The Central Midlands Premier, North and South side, both saw action concerning Notts clubs with, in the former, Retford United maintained their 100% league record with a 2-0 home win over Yorkshire Main, Jonathan Froggatt and Liam Nelthorpe scoring, whilst SJR Worksop lost 1-0 at home to Dearne & District; Retford, they’ve won seven-from seven in the league to start the season, have kept four clean sheets, and currently hold a five point advantage at the top.
In the latter division, Linby Colliery Welfare won 3-0 at home to Arnold Town, goals coming from Trenmere Lindo, Sean Craven, and Connor Gillan, and Nottingham lost 4-1 away to Pinxton; of the Notts clubs in the South, Teversal are currently joint-top with Clay Cross Town whilst Linby CW are five points off top spot.
Meanwhile, the draw has recently been made in the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup, and will see the following games played –
