Magical Notts Win Table Top Clash

Notts County 1-0 Wrexham (National League) 04.10.22

How significant this result might be? As Notts County leapfrog their promotion rivals to go top of the tree.

Notts County go top of the league after a fabulous night, in front of a fabulous atmospheric crowd at Meadow Lane, signed, sealed and secured by a fabulous goal, from that man again, Macaulay Langstaff.

The Magpies pushed from the off and should have been one up inside a minute when Langstaff’s header was saved and Nemane’s follow up was cleared off the line. Cedwyn Scott then went close forcing the best out of Wrexham goalkeeper Howard.

Then the moment that would change the game, a neatly worked free kick on thirteen started with Ruben Rodrigues playing to Matty Palmer who pulled back to Langstaff who smashed home before the whole stadium erupted.

15 for the season by Langstaff who scored two, not three, at the weekend. That goal last night leaving him ahead of Erling Haaland in the English football scoring stakes.

Davies at the other end fired over before O’Brien was forced off with injury on 33. Notts in at the break with a lead although Mullins going close on the stroke of half time when he should have done better after beating the offside trap.

The second half saw Slocombe become more prominant as he first saved from Palmer, taking a knock in the process, Bajrami had a shot deflected wide at the other end before Nemane had a couple of sniffs to double County’s lead.

With the game on a knife edge, both sides had opportunities, continuing to press, Notts to seal victory, Wrexham to get themselves back level pegging, Brindley putting his body on the line for Notts to block an effort by Palmer, Scott shooting from long range with Howard equal to the task.

In the end though, the home side, spurred by the home crowd, dug deap, dug in and took full reward on a memorable night played in front of 10,000 plus.
