Wildcats Hoping For First Win

Nottingham Wildcats face Manchester Met Mystics tomorrow night at the Wildcats Arena, looking for their first win of the WBBL Championship season after their first match at Newcastle Eagles last weekend ended in defeat.

The Wildcats lost 69-65 on the road in a tight contested match at the Vertu Motors Arena. Nottingham leading from the front and were up seven by the end of the first quarter before Newcastle reduced that lead to just two at half time.

With the home side turning things around to take a two-point advantage into the last, they managed to hold and extend their gain to take the points, the first for the season for Newcastle who lost their opening game the week previous, at Caledonia Gladiators.

An impressive scoring performance by Kayla Shaw of the Wildcats saw her net 25 points in the match with Marl Stewart netting fifteen with fifteen rebounds and Kennedy Nicolas 13pts and ten rebounds, Brahe Ashton with five assists.

This weekend the Wildcats host Manchester who have lost their first two matches so far this season and sit bottom but one in the table ahead of Oaklands Wolves who Nottingham will play after, on 22nd October before ending the month at home against Caledonia.

Elsewhere in hoops action, The Wildcats U18’s beat Charnwood Basketball on Sunday as Valery Cassidy DeFalco netted 31 of her sides 77 points in a comprehensive 13 point victory. The men’s Wildcats Academy team winning their Division Three NBL match on Saturday gone, beating Sheffield Sabres Academy 88-65. Nottingham Trent Hoods losing on Saturday against Myerscough Academy who beat the boys 72-67 in the NBL Division Two.
