Worksop Town are top of the league after a thumping 4-0 win at Tadcaster Albion in the Northern Premier East Division last night. The Tigers led from the front after netting their first goal inside two minutes through James Hanson who tapped in from close range after good work by Jay Rollins down the right.
Within six minutes it was two, Rollins again involved as he crossed to Liam Hughes wo volleyed in off the post before the same player headed home a corner, on 21 minutes to give the away side a three goal lead.
With fifteen minutes remaining Tavonga Kuleya rounded things off, taking advantage of a Tadcaster defensive lapse, to net his first Tigers goal, Worksop now 40 points from 15 games, level with Stockton in second but ahead on goal difference, and with a game in hand.
The Tigers next travel to Ossett United at the weekend.
Elsewhere last night, in the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup, it was an easy win for Mansfield Town who beat Notts County’s youngsters 6-1 to reach the semi-finals of a competition which they reached the final of last year.
The Stags netting through Jason Law, Kellan Gordon, Rhys Oates, an own goal, Jordan Bowery and James Gale, Manager Nigel Clough playing a strong side ahead of their FA Cup second round tie at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
Also in the County Cup, Newark & Sherwood beat AFC Mansfield on the road, coming from a goal behind at half time after Kamani Wilson opened the scoring, the away side responding immediately after half time through Nyle Blake before Luke White give the Highwaymen the lead with a deft chip. Blake finishing things off to send Jonathan D’Laryea’s side through.
