Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club have announced New Zealand International Colin Munro as their overseas player for the T20 team ahead of this summer’s Vitality Blast campaign.
Munro helped Trent Rockets to win the Hundred competition last year and is familiar with the surroundings at Trent Bridge, he’ll bring quality and experience to the side after club legend Dan Christian recently announced his retirement.
The big hitting South African born New Zealander, Munro, in 65 T20 internationals has three centuries and a batting average of 31.34 and a strike rate of 156.44.
Already scoring 206 runs in nine matches for the Trent Rockets at an average over 40, he said “Trent Bridge is a great place to call home.
Continuing “I’ve witnessed first-hand how much the crowd get behind the team, with the Rockets last summer and when I’ve been fortunate, or unfortunate, to come up against the Outlaws at home.
“I’m joining a team which plays an aggressive brand of cricket which suits my style and how I like to go about scoring runs.
“I want to come in and add my experience to what is already a well-oiled machine.”
The former Worcestershire and Hampshire left hander is a great addition to the 2017 and 2020 Vitality Blast winners batting armour and Head Coach Peter Moores was quick to sing Munro’s praise, stating “We’ve signed a quality player.
“He’s someone who brings a lot to any team he plays for, both on and off the field.
“We’ve spoken a lot about Dan Christian and what he brought to us, experience, quality and a positive and dynamic style of play. I see Colin in the same bracket. He’s got his game sorted, he’s played T20 cricket all around the world and he will complement the likes of Alex Hales at the top of the order.
“We’re conscious of the fact that Ben Duckett has done really well for England and there’s more than a fair chance that we’ll miss him for parts of the summer, that’s one of the reasons we wanted to bring Colin in, to make sure we have that wealth of experience to call upon.”
The Outlaws will start their T20 season at home to Derbyshire on Friday 26th May whilst Trent Rockets will play their first game of the Hundred season on August 1st against Southern Brave, they’ll then travel to Edgbaston on Aug 5th where they’ll visit Birmingham Phoenix before facing Northern Superchargers at Trent Bridge on August 9th ahead of a trip to Lords and London Spirit on August 12th.
The Rockets travel to Welsh Fire on Aug 14th before Manchester Originals on 17th Aug and concluding their group stage campaign against Birmingham, at Trent Bridge, on 19th August. Please visit the Nottinghamshire CCC website for ticket details.
