As Beeston Ladies 1s prepare to return to the field ahead of the new Premier Division season they have been strengthened by the addition of several new signings for the 2023/2024 season.
Head Coach James Sordillo has secured a number of signings in the off season with defenders Lottie Summers joining from Barnes Hockey Club in London, Lucy Mackie coming in from Nottingham Trent University, forward Angela Chilwell joining from Australian side Surburban Lions and goalkeeper Emily Cartwright joining from Liverpool University.
Lottie Summers has previously played for Beeston but had moved down to London on a temporary basis and was always planning on re-joining the Premier Division. On re-joining Beeston “Im really excited to be back at Beeston and I can’t wait to get back out on the field with the girls”
Lucy Mackey, a current Irish U23 international joins from local University Nottingham Trent where she was playing for both their BUCS side and club side but is seeking an opportunity at a higher and more suitable level to help support her international aspirations.
Angela Chilwell will be flying into the country following the conclusion of the Western Australian Premier Division where she is currently playing for Surburban Lions who are sitting comfortably of top of the league. The Western Australian Premier division is a hotbed of hockey and one of the best domestic leagues in the world.
Cartwright signs following the completion of her degree at the University of Liverpool. Of the signing Head Coach James Sordillo said, “It’s great to bring Emily to Beeston, it increases depth and competition with our Goalkeepers. It is such a specialist position where they all create such a tight bond whilst competing against each other for one spot it takes the right characters and we’re confident we have found a really good one here
Sordillo continued “I can’t wait to bring Lottie [Summers] back to the squad, she is a high quality performance player but also a brilliant character and I can’t wait to integrate her back in with the group. I haven’t worked with Lucy before but in my early encounters with her and from what everyone has said, she is going to be a fantastic addition on and off the field.”
Perth based Chilwell said on moving to Beeston “I can’t wait to get over to the UK, join up with the squad and have some fun”. Sordillo commented “Having got to know Angela over the last few weeks she’s going to fit right in. From what I have seen she is a hard running committed forward who will really contribute to what we are trying to do. She fits the mould of player we want in our front line and we are excited to see her in a Beeston shirt”
