Notts County have a new Head Coach in Stuart Maynard, the man who’s part-time side Wealdstone sat thirteenth in the National League table, the Stones however having built up quite a reputation under his stewardship of playing football ‘the right way’ and the Magpies owners see him as a perfect replacement following Luke Williams departure to Swansea City.
A statement from the Notts County board of directors read: “We’ve been tracking Stuart’s progress for a long time and have huge respect for the outstanding job he’s done at Wealdstone on limited resources.
“We believe he will thrive in a full-time environment and is an excellent fit for us in terms of his playing philosophy, which puts him in a strong position to settle in quickly and lead our continued push for promotion to League One.”
Notts welcome top of the table Stockport County to Meadow Lane on Saturday with the new Head Coach looking to strengthen the sides position in the promotion race. Both teams come into this fixture stumbling of late with two wins in their last five games and 11 points separate the two sides with Notts in 6th position with 43 points and Stockport sitting proudly at the top of the table with 54.
The reverse fixture on the 22nd of December last year saw Notts County narrowly defeated 2 goals to 1. Despite the result, Notts dominated the game completely, controlling 66% of the game’s possession and taking 12 shots to Stockport’s 9 despite being away from home. David McGoldrick’s 90+3’ goal gave Notts a hope of what the league would suggest to be an unlikely comeback, but Stockport held onto their lead and secured the 3 points.
Notts of course enter this game following an emphatic 5-5 draw with Grimsby that saw Jodi Jones claim 4 assists.
Stockport will travel to Nottingham off the back of a convincing 3-1 win to 13th place Walsall and will be looking to kickstart a winning run as they charge for automatic promotion.
Notts County are third in the form table for home fixtures racking up 30 points on Trentside.
