Sosa Is A Red

Forest finally conclude deal for Paraguayan Forward. In what feels like the longest transfer dealing in some time, with some huge twists, Nottingham Forest have finally announced the signing of former Talleres winger, Ramón Sosa.

Who is Ramón Sosa?

Born in Maracana, Paraguay, Ramon Sosa (24) has signed for Nottingham Forest as part of a deal worth around £11m. Sosa worked his way up football in Paraguay, eventually making his way to Talleres de Cordoba in Argentina, where he has shone, and caught the eyes of South American spectators, and indeed spectators across the world – most notably in Europe, his new home.

Before the fame, the eyes, the money, and all the luxuries of playing football professionally, Sosa worked on a farm with much of his family – an entirely different situation, and by no means one with the prosperity him & his family now benefit from. Sosa’s family supported his dream, and soon, the Paraguayan star would repay his family: after moving to Argentina, he provided his family with a new house back in his birthplace. An awe-inspiring story of a boy born with minimal, who persisted through the competition, and challenge, eventually seeing a part of his dream come true, with the next steps soon to come.

Premier League interest is nothing new; Sosa himself responded to questions earlier in the year regarding interest, and he relished the interest: Premier League football is his dream and that he “hopes to achieve it” – we now know he has, and he will, for Nottingham Forest.

You can’t help but feel proud of Sosa for making the dream come true, even with it all – almost – being cancelled, and potentially ruined.

The recent adversity

By adversity, you could say Sosa faced most of that while young – statistics for players making it out of academies globally are low, and for Sosa to have made it in Professional football is a huge achievement. Despite this achievement though, it almost came crashing down, and it was completely out of his hands.

After initial reports of Forest’s interest in Sosa, the reports came flying in about potential fee’s, dates of travel, those travelling, and claims emerged from all different directions both positive & negative – soon enough, it came to one conclusion amongst all: Talleres’ president had gone back on an agreement, and allegedly demanded more money from the Premier League side. This move would backfire however, as Sosa refused to feature in the Copa Libertadores round of 16, and demanded for Forest’s offer to be accepted, so he could move and achieve his dream. Sure enough – and not without frustration for all parties – such demands were accepted.

Sosa will now join in a move worth around £11m, as confirmed by acclaimed Sports journalist for the midlands & beyond, John Percy, Telegraph.

The “moving of goalposts” in respect to the changing in fee’s has caused disruption, but after an almost month long saga, Ramón Sosa has made it to the top division in World Football.

What Forest fans can expect

Forest’s fan base have waited eagerly, and the wait will be worth it: possessing great pace, technicality, and creativity, Sosa is a strong suited winger – predominantly on the left-side – who will further bolster Forest’s frontline.

The wing position was an area Forest desperately needed to improve, given that Hudson-Odoi & Elanga were the only natural wingers in the first team. Now with Jota Silvs (Right) & Ramón Silva (Left) are in the team, Forest have seemingly fixed that issue, and have strong options both on the pitch, and indeed on the bench. Forest also possess a young set of wingers: Sosa (24), Hudson-Odoi (23), Elanga (22), Silva (25) – a good long-term setup.

6 Goals & 5 Assists in 2024, 8 Goals & 6 Assists in 2023 – Sosa offers a little bit of everything: long-runs, 1v1’s, cut’s inside, are all parts of his game, and attributes he will look to use, and further improve, as he starts life in England.

A huge step for him, but one that, without a doubt, he will make, and do so with success – Ramón Sosa is, at last, a Red.
