Mixed Bags For Notts Clubs In CMA

There was a mixed bag of results for the Notts-based clubs in the Central Midlands Alliance on Saturday afternoon, Blidworth Welfare putting the previous Saturday’s drubbing quickly to one side, with a high-scoring win of their own, whilst there was defeat Ollerton Town, SJR Worksop, Arnold Town, and Teversal.

In the Premier North Blidworth, who’d lost 7-0 the previous week, kept that in the past when winning 6-0 at home to Yorkshire Main, the Welfare sitting eighth on goal-difference; both Benjamin Copestake, and substitute Tony Edwards, bagged braces for the home victors, with Reilly Hodgkinson and Archie Ward also chipping in.

Ollerton Town (fourth) and SJR Worksop (tenth) both suffered narrow, home defeats, they losing to Harworth Colliery and Hatfield Town respectively; goalless at the break, Ollerton were undone by a goal seven minutes into the second period whilst SJR, who netted via Sam Foulds, conceded twice to lose.

Of the Premier South games, both also at home, in was a pair of 3-0 losses for the Notts clubs, both finding themselves two-down at the break also; Arnold Town lost to visiting Graham Street Prims, Harry Baines scoring once in each half to send his side level on points with Linby Colliery Welfare in second place, and Teversal, with only one league win to their name this season, were beaten by a visiting Derby Singh Brothers, who moved ahead of Mansfield Hosiery Mills, on goal-difference.

RHP Sports & Social Club progressed in the one game played in the Buckinghamshire Insurance Challenge Cup, Kieran Wall’s goal seeing them edge visiting Bottesford Town Development, whilst there was a handful of games played across Division One also.

In Division One North, Joe Bean was on-hand to grab a brace, and earn SJR Worksop Development a share of the spoils, as they drew 2-2 away to Evo FC, the two sides split by a point at the top of the table; meanwhile, in Division One East Shirebrook Soldiers moved top, on goal-difference, from Mansfield Hosiery Mills Blue.

Seven-wins-from-seven, maximum points, and a for-against record of 35-7, with two games in hand, sees Shirebrook the stand-out side in the early stages; winning 5-1 at home to Lord Bennington was done with five different players on the scoresheet also as Ben Charlesworth (sixteen goals so far), Keegan Darby, Kieran Darby, Billi Holland, and Lewis Foster (sixth of the season), all netted, the visitors’ consolation coming via substitute Archie Carter.

Ashland Rivers were beaten 4-0 away to Pilsley Community, whilst the game between Eastwood & Kimberley and Kirton Brickworks saw the hosts edge by the odd-goal-in-five, a game which saw five different scorers; Martyn Gee, Carnell Lester and substitute Callum Banks netted for the victors, with Layton Wareham and Ben Walker replying.
