Nottingham Forest Women return to Cup action on Sunday as they travel to Sutton Coldfield to take on Boldmere St Michael’s in the first official round of the Women’s FA Cup.
Carly Davies’ side will aim to retain their twelve-game unbeaten run this weekend, pushing to progress into the next round of the FA Cup.
An international call-up for Casey Howe and Nat Johnson saw Nottingham Forest’s recent fixture against Liverpool Feds postponed indefinitely.
For their last outing, Nottingham Forest secured their place in the quarterfinals of the FAWNL Cup after a glorious 6-0 victory against Peterborough United. Two early goals from Charlie Wellings and Melissa Johnson saw the Reds enter the interval with a slim advantage, but Johnson was quick increase this, making it three shortly after returning to the pitch. Bridget Galloway made an instant impact after being subbed on, adding her name to the scoresheet only minutes later. Sophie Domingo and Millie Chandarana wrapped the game up with another two goals, depriving Peterborough of the chance to progress.
When asked about her thoughts on the performance, Davies replied: “I’m very pleased. We wanted to do well in all competitions this year. We obviously got knocked out this time last year by Newcastle, so we wanted to better that. I’m pleased we used all five substitutions off the bench again today, and we had multiple goal scorers. Overall, I think it was a very comfortable afternoon, so we take the win and move our focus to the next game.”
Boldmere secured their third consecutive win as they conducted an impressive 3-1 victory against Notts County. Goals from Janelle Straker, Molly Towers and Anna Wilcox saw the Mikes Women move up to fifth place in the Division One Midlands Table.
Both sides last met in the third round of the previous FA Cup campaign, with Forest dominating the scoreline. Nat Johnson, Mai Moncaster and Louanne Worsey secured the Reds a place in the next round, sending Boldmere away with an early exit.
