Southbank Upset Ollerton

The Nottinghamshire FA Senior Trophy dominated the days action across the Notts Senior League at the weekend, with FC Sez getting proceedings underway under the Friday Night Lights, easing to a comfortable home win over Ashland Rovers Reserves; there were also wins for the like Cotgrave, Bingham Town, Woodthorpe Park Rangers, and Collingham, among others.

Of those progressing however, Gedling Southbank, early leaders of the NSL Division Two, pulled off a shock win when away to Central Midlands Premier side, Ollerton Town; a result made even more a surprise when the hosts led twice, before a late collapse.

A corner on the right was headed home by Regan Edridge inside the opening fifteen minutes to give the hosts the lead, but, with less than ten remaining in the first, the tie was level when Joshua Wood fired home from inside the six-yard box; the two sides level at ones-apiece at the break.

Ollerton regained their lead just before the hour when a long-range effort from substitute Harvey Limb was fired low and hard into the visiting net; the lead lasted but six minutes however, Stephen King equalising with his first of the game.

The game did look as though it was heading to penalties, in fact there was but minutes remaining when Southbank stunned their hosts with a third goal, this time Aaron Darch stroked the ball home with two minutes left then, in injury-time, King rounded the last man, then the home ‘keeper, to wrap up a remarkable, 4-2 win.

Cotgrave put nine past visiting AFC Parabellum, Lee Potts and Benn Upton both grabbing hat-tricks, and Bingham hit their visitors, Aslockton & Orston, for five without reply, Joseph Hornigold with a hat-trick there; Woodthorpe won 4-2 at home to Ravenshead, and Collingham edged hosts Ruddington Village 2-1.

Meanwhile, on the Friday night, FC Sez cruised past visiting Ashland Reserves thanks to a brace of goals from Leo Almond, and one each for Dior Anderson, Gideon Neto, and Divine Ningmu.

PMG claimed a 6-1 win when at Ravenshead Res, Bachir Tyera with a hat-trick for the victors, and FC Pelican won 5-0 at Trent Vineyard as Martin McDonagh (3) and Shardan Buchanan (2) both netted.

Langwith Whitestar comfortably made the semi-finals of the Derbyshire Junior Cup, they easing past visitors Chapel Town Reserves 6-2 thanks to a hat-trick from Sam Dockwray, and one apiece for Brady Dockwray, Dan Foster, and Liam Widdowson.

A handful of league matches were also played, with one coming in the Premier Division, that seeing six goals as hosts West Bridgford Reserves won 4-2 against Radcliffe Olympic, Callum Cox and Micael Moussa with a brace apiece for their respective sides.

Victory for the hosts saw them move withing touching distance of the top ten in the NSL Premier, whilst the visitors remain bottom, a point behind both FC Sez, and Woodthorpe.

Kimberley Miners Welfare Reserves are top of Division One, by three, but having played several games more, after they won 5-0 away to Beeston Old Boys Association, Toby Gibbs and Aaron Coyle both bagging braces, whilst Clifton All Whites edged into sixth with a 2-1 home win over Hucknall Town Reserves.

Mid-table Stapleford Town Reserves meanwhile top-scored, they winning 11-2 away to Rushcliffe as Ben Bowers, Ryan Hughes, and Oskar Kruk, all hit trebles; Division Two saw Elston United close the gap on leaders Gedling Southbank to two, with a game in hand, following their 8-1 win at Wollaton Reserves, James Scott hitting a four-goal salvo, whilst the game between Greyfriars and Southwell City St. Marys finished in a 3-3 draw.

Rushcliffe Reserves, and East Leake Robins Reserves, both picked up 3-2 wins in Division Three, the former winning at Phoenix Athletic, to slot into fifth place, Joseph Smiley with a brace for the victors, and the latter won when home to Awsworth Villa Reserves, moving above them into ninth place.

As for the NSL Development Division, fourteen goals were scored in the three games played, leaders Attenborough Development completing an impressive comeback from 3-1 down, with thirty remaining, to see off gritty visitors South Notts Devs.

Dwayne Mundirwa had given the visitors an early lead and, although George Pursglove equalised for the hosts, further goals were netted by Felix Alexa and Zeake Dayes, for an interval lead; the score stayed that way until the 60th minute when Lewis Caine netted, substitute Bradley Greatorex equalising with twenty remaining.

Will Humphriss put the leaders in front, for the first time, just two minutes after the equaliser, and visiting hearts were broken in the closing minutes when Pursglove added his second, and Attenborough’s fifth of the afternoon.

Five goals were netted in Linby as the hosts’ development side fell to a 3-2 loss to visiting Newark & Sherwood, the winning goal coming in the 90th minute via Finn Holroyd, after Kalvin Osborn had netted twice, John Friel and Kane Yeomans scoring for the hosts, and Ryley Picker would net the only goal as AFC Warriors, sitting second, won 1-0 away to Red Sea.
