Bulls Win In Weather Hit Weekend

Despite the cold snap, snow, and everything in between of late, the Nottinghamshire non-league scene still managed to produced this past week, with a handful of games coming both the United Counties, the Central Midlands, and the Notts Senior League.

UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE

Of those, in the only game in the United Counties League involving a Notts club, AFC Mansfield continued their solidification of a play-off spot in the Premier Division North, the Bulls edging hosts Melton Town 1-0, courtesy of a Ryan Ingram goal midway through the second half.

Although sitting third, on 48 points, the Bulls, six points off leaders Eastwood CFC, have, like their Notts rivals, played three more than that of Bourne Town (second) and Lincoln United (fifth), whilst fourth place Newark Town also have a game in hand.

CENTRAL MIDLANDS ALLIANCE

Just two games were played in the Central Midlands Alliance, one of which was a Third Round tie in the Buckingham Insurance League Challenge Cup, Blidworth Welfare exiting on the back of a 3-0 loss away to Doncaster City, the victors netting twice in the final half hour to earn progression.

Meanwhile, the one league game played, it came in Division One East, and saw an eleven-goal thriller played out at the Rossington Community Sports Village, hosts Southwell City Development fighting back from 3-0, and 6-2 down, before narrowly losing 6-5 to Ashland Rovers.

The game would see seven different scorers, and two hat-tricks, Jordan Barnes firing three for the hosts, and man-of-the-match Callum Jones doing the same for the visitors; both James Collett and Mark Nangle were also on target for City, whilst Nathan Harrison, Edward Morgan, and Lee Naughton, kept the visitors’ noses in front.

Victory for Rovers sees them move within four points of leaders Shirebrook Soldiers, and three ahead of third place Mansfield Hosiery Blue, having played three games more than both their promotion rivals.

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE SENIOR LEAGUE

A plethora of games meanwhile went ahead in the Notts Senior League, albeit just the two in the Premier Division, both of which saw 3-1 away wins registered.

Beeston moved into the top ten with a win away to FC Cavaliers, all three of their goals coming during a twenty-minute spell during the first half, and moved within two points of their hosts, whilst Woodthorpe Park Rangers eased any relegation thoughts with a similar score when at mid-table Southwell City Reserves.

More than thirty goals were netted in the five games in Division One, leaders Kimberley Miners Welfare Reserves with a third of that tally, they romping to a 10-0 victory at home to second bottom, AFC Sandiacre Town, whilst Stapleford Town Reserves bagged eight and Rushcliffe six, when on the road.

Holding a twelve-point advantage on second place Bingham Town, who also won, the leaders bagged ten for the second time this season, stretching their current unbeaten run to six matches, scoring thirty-four along the way.

Here, against Sandiacre, they led by just the three at the break, but ran riot in the second half, Lewis Deavin the main protagonist with a four-goal salvo, further goals coming via Luis Fazal, Bradley Mee, Bijan Pakrouz, Alfie Newbold, Tom Bailey, and Luke Marshall.

With Bingham winning at Clifton All White Reserves, and East Leake Robins slipping into third with a 3-2 win at home to Hucknall Town Reserves, Rushcliffe also took advantage of the weather to move into the fourth, they claiming a 6-0 win at Keyworth United Reserves, Callum Baker bagging a hat-trick for the victors.

Stapleford meanwhile, they moved above Clifton AW following a big win of their own, 8-1 at Bilborough TRD, Charlie Jackson and Alans Vosresenskis both grabbing braces; the remaining game meanwhile came in Division Two, FC Pelican flying to a 7-1 success when at Greyfriars, who’ve gone off the boil of late, slipping to sixth, the victors leapfrogging them into fifth place.
